FSSAI Food License
A new food safety and standards agency, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), was established in 2006. FSSAI is the legal authority that offers a license to all food businesses in India. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is in charge of preserving and promoting public health management and monitoring of food safety. Hence this license is very vital for the food business.
The FSSAI food and safety regulator has set more than 12000 standards meant to regularize the food additives and ingredients. This is in line with the global safety standards known as the Codex. These standards have been set up to remove the lengthy safety process required for any product approval. This particular move of the government will be helpful to the food companies since they will not have to take a special approval for the food products if they are following the standards of food additives and ingredients.
This has reduced the burden of food product manufacturers. As per the law, there are more than 375 FSSAI standards for the food items, but none for the additives and ingredients.

FSSAI Basic registration
This is normally used by small scale businesses, or in most of the cases, startups. The criteria are to have an annual turnover below Rs. 12 lakhs. One can initially go for basic registration and then upgrade the same as per their requirement.
FSSAI State license
The state license is taken by those companies which are of medium scale. The annual turnover criteria changes; the annual turnover is between Rs. 12 lakhs to 20 crores.
FSSAI Central license
This type of license is applicable for large organizations with an annual turnover of more than 20 crores. This type of license is when the business needs to supply government offices or import and export food products.

Let us understand our procedure for FSSAI Online registration –
Filling of our form
We have a very simple form which has to be filled by the concerned food manufacturers. Our form calls for the details of the food business you are doing or wish to do. All the required details have to be elaborated in the form.
Email of form and documents
Once you have filled in the details of the form, you need to send them by email along with the prescribed documents. Here are the required documents that are to be sent to us – as soon as we receive your form and documents, we will create the FSSAI Form A and Form B.
- Declaration form – this is a standard declaration about your food business.
- A food Safety certificate calls for certain rules wherein they would need to understand your food safety plan. It has to be certified by the concerned authority.
- Authority letter – is the letter that has to be received from the concerned authority confirming the genuineness of the food business which calls for the license.
- To have the address proof we need the electricity or the water bill of the business place from where the business would be carried out.
- In the case of owned property, the sale deed/index copy is required. Those who would be doing the business in a rented property need to share the rental agreement.
- If it is a partnership firm/proprietor, then an aadhar card or voter card of the partners or the proprietor is required.
- Form XI – This is the nomination by the company for the authorized persons who would be taking care of the FSSAI measures. This has to be submitted along with a board resolution.
Submission of documents
The FSSAIdocuments are submitted along with the application and documents and the required declarations to the local FBO (Food Officer) by our experienced CS or CA.
Issuance of FSSAI
Once all the documents are in place, and the officials come for the inspection, the license is mailed to you if there are no problems and they do not find any errors. We do all the follow ups required for obtaining the license on time.

Functions Of FSSAI
Looking at the industry’s requirements, the food and safety body has approved more than 12000 standards, and the same has been presented to the law ministry for their approval; once approved, the notification will be issued very soon as per one of the sources of the health ministry. The FSSAI’s new standards are in accordance with the worldwide standards of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, which was created by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization.

Validity of FSSAI license
The FSSAI license validity ranges between 1 to 5 years. As per the Food Safety and Standards Authority rules, the business operator can take the license for a period of 1 year. The renewal of the license should be placed before 30 days and should be done before its expiry. Those licenses which are renewed after the expiry period will have to pay a fine of Rs. 100/- per day for the number of delays. Form A or Form B is required; declaration of the proprietor or partner is required; photo id proof is required of the partners or proprietor. Once the renewal details are received, the officials will check and verify the documents.
